Behaviour Cemetery
For over 120 years, Behavior Cemetery is a historic African American graveyard used by the Gullah-Geechee communities that reside on Sapelo Island. The cemetery is named after the antebellum slave settlement called "Behavior" which was a slave community a part of Thomas Spalding's plantation in Sapelo. Behavior Cemetery is closely tied with churches on Sapelo Island including First African Baptist Church and St. Luke Baptist Church. In 1996, Behavior Cemetery was designated on the National Register of Historic Places.
