Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters and Dock

The site contains the headquarters and dock of the Blackbeard Island National Wildlife Refuge (NWR). This is one of the habitats that the US Fish and Wildlife Service conserves and helps ensure the survival of wildlife species native to Georgia. As one of the barrier islands, this national refuge provides protection to the coastline and also a habitat for wildlife including nesting sea turtles and resident shorebirds. Blackbeard Island NWR also supports 240 species of breeding and wintering birds, 20 species of mammals, and additional reptiles, amphibians, and fish. This refuge has several threatened and endangered wildlife species.
