Bourbon Field

Bourbon Field is on the northeastern part of Sapelo Island. In 1789, Picot de Boisfeuillet named Bourbon Field after the French Sapelo Company bought the island. In the first two decades of the 19th century, the French aristocrat and immigrant named John Montalet owned the Bourbon Field and High Point tracts. During the antebellum period, Bourbon Field had working cotton plantations. In addition to antebellum plantations, slaves established communities including Bourbon Field, Hanging Bull, and Behavior.
