Cumberland Island

Located off Georgia's southeastern coast and accessible only by boat, Cumberland Island is home to wildlife, including wild horses, loggerhead sea turtles, and a range of bird species. The island’s history spans Indigenous Timucua settlements, Spanish missions, and English colonial outposts, with significant remnants from the 19th century, when the Carnegie family built opulent estates like the now-ruined Dungeness mansion.
