Darien River

Darien River is a 10-mile-long tidal river. This river is part of a large set of salt marshes that surrounds the mouth of the Altamaha River. Along Darien River is a waterfront part with a pavilion and dock used for fishing and recreational activities including The Blessing of the Fleet event held every April to honor Darien’s shrimpers. Darien Waterfront Park used to be one of the busiest ports on the Southeast coast. In the 19th century, ships entered Port Darien with lumber (mainly yellow pine) that headed to Europe.
