Frederica River

Frederica River is located in Glynn County and the settlement of Frederica is on this river between St. Simons Island and the mainland. Frederica was an old fort and settlement named by General Oglethorpe after the Prince of Wales, Frederick Louis (1707-1751). Frederica was originally established in 1736 to protect from the Spanish in the south. In 1945 Fort Frederica was established as a National Monument consisting of 250 acres.
