Major William Horton

Born in England, Major William Horton came to Georgia in 1736. He was the leading military aide to General James Oglethorpe and was in charge of troops at Fort Frederica on the nearby St. Simons Island. On Jekyll Island, he built Horton House in 1743 and owned plantation. He passed away in Savannah in 1748.
