Pelican Spit (Glynn County)

A bar located between the north end of Sea Island and the south end of Little St. Simons Island. Not only was it a popular stop for recreational boaters and fishermen, but it was also a key habitat for shorebirds -- American oystercatchers, Wilson’s plovers and least terns--to nest on. Back in 2001, it once disappeared and went underwater due to Hurricane Dennis. In 2022, the bar was closed for dog and visitor's access to protect nesting activities.
