Poetter Hall

Paula and Richard Rowe, along with May and Paul Poetter, founded the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1978. In 1979, the college purchased its first building, the former Savannah Volunteer Guards Armory (1892), naming it Preston Hall after architect William Gibbons Preston. Now the flagship of SCAD’s expanding campus, its restoration and adaptive reuse, along with other historic structures, have earned recognition from major preservation organizations. Renamed Poetter Hall, it honors May and Paul Poetter, who served as Vice President for Admission and Comptroller until joining the Board of Trustees in 1997.
