R/V Savannah

The R/V Savannah is a research vessel that's housed at the UGA Marine Extension Dock. The R/V Savannah is used as a chemical, biological, geological, and physical oceanographic research boat. This research vessel is owned and operated by the UGA Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. Additionally, the boat is a member of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) and Academic Research Fleet (ARF). The R/V Savannah is used to study estuarine and continental shelf waters across the southern US Atlantic Coast along with the Gulf Coast.

One project that employed the R/V Savannah was tracking the endangered north Atlantic right whales off the Georgia and Florida coasts in real-time as they moved around their southern calving grounds
