Raccoon Bluff

This area of Sapelo Island supported a large Gullah/Geechee community before its residents were pressured to relocate to Hog Hammock. It is the site of Sapelo's First African Baptist Church, established in 1866. Fossilized ghost shrimp burrows from the Pleistocene may also be found in bluff sediments.
