Saint Bartholomew Church

St. Bartholomew is the oldest active Black congregation of the Episcopal diocese in Georgia. Organized in 1896, it was originally developed by White plantation owners seeking to teach scripture to enslaved workers. Following the Civil War, the newly freed community developed their own worship space and schoolhouse, which remain in good condition today thanks to continued preservation efforts. This site is on the National Register of Historical Places.
