Saint Philip Monumental African Methodist Episcopal Church

Established in Savannah in 1865, Saint Philip refers to itself as "The Mother Church of African Methodism" in Georgia. It was the first AME church established in the state. Since its earliest pastors' involvement in Reconstruction efforts, the church has remained heavily engaged in spiritual and community development as well as Civil Rights advocacy. On May 7, 1961, the Church moved from Hall Street to its present location on Jefferson Street and Park Avenue.
