Sand Dunes (Wassaw Island)

Snow fences and sea oats (tall grasses native to coastal dunes like this one) are master dune builders because they help trap sand and stabilize dunes. Wassaw Island has spilling waves, which means that they have broad waves that slow down as they move over the shoreline, contributing to dune growth rather than erosion.
Sea level rise is expected to occur at a rate of 1 foot per century on Georgia's coast at areas like this, which is relatively low compared to other areas, but still will cause problems and erode the coastline.
