The Second Pierce County courthouse was built in 1875 and converted to a home in 1903 and is now called the Belvin Home. The first court met at the house of Nancy Stewart and the first courthouse built in 1858 but burned down in 1875. The current courthouse located several blocks away was built in 1902.

Brick structure built in 1902. This site is on the National Register of Historical Places. The county was created by an Act of the Legislature on December 18th, 1857 and is named after Franklin Pierce, a New Hampshire Democrat, and the fourteenth President of the United States (1853-1857).

Located at 200 South Central Avenue in Blackshear, the station was built in 1917 by the Savannah, Florida & Western Railway. It was used for passenger service into the 1950s and freight service into the 1970s. This site is on the National Register of Historical Places.

Blackshear was founded in 1858 as the seat of Pierce County. It was named after General David Blackshear, a patriot in the American Revolution and a general during the War of 1812. During the American Civil War, the city served as a temporary prisoner-of-war camp for over 5,000 Union prisoners. Of note, the first brick tobacco warehouse in Georgia was built here, as tobacco was one of the major agricultural crops after a shift from cotton.
