Walter Bernard Hill Hall

Constructed in 1901, Walter Bernard Hill Hall is the oldest standing building on Savannah State University's campus. It was built during Richard R. Wright, Sr.'s administration as the first president of the college (then named Georgia State Industrial College). The building is named after Walter Bernard Hill, the chancellor of University of Georgia during that time. Originally, this was a male dormitory and served as barracks for WWI troops. In fact, U.S. President William Howard Taft visited soldiers in the hall in 1912. This hall has served as a dorm, library, classroom, post office, bookstore, administrative building, and student center. Since 2015, the hall contains the Office of the President and the university's financial aid office. This site is on the National Register of Historical Places.
